The City Quill

There are presently no open calls for submissions.

General Guidelines:

The City Quill celebrates new writers from all walks of life, no matter their age, sex, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, ability, income, weight, height, education level, favorite color, etc. If you're an unpublished writer, we want to hear from you.

If you have been published before, we love you, but please don't send us your work.

To submit, please save your work in .doc or .docx format and submit it through the appropriate channel. Simultaneous submissions are just fine, but we ask that you please withdraw it immediately if it is accepted elsewhere. If you paid for an expedited submission, you'll still receive feedback, but will not be published in the mag.

One additional caveat: the City Quill does not condone or accept hate speech of any kind. Get outta here with that nonsense.

Expedited Entries:

The City Quill staff consists of four broke friends who love writing and who want to support other writers as best we can. We each work regular jobs, and we volunteer huge chunks of our free time trying to create something awesome for you.

To keep up with costs, we've added some new submission categories. You may submit your poetry, fiction, and nonfiction free of charge, or you can pay a small fee to have your work expedited and critiqued by a City Quill editor. Expedited works will be accepted or rejected within six weeks.

Opting for the fee will not improve your chances of publication in the magazine. However, each expedited submission will help us cut down on out-of-pocket expenses, and in return, we'll give you some in-depth, honest feedback on your work.

Expedited categories will close on 2/28/17.

Payment:

We're a lit mag in our infancy, but we are growing. We hope to eventually be able to pay our contributors for their work, and we're diligently working toward that end. For the time being, we can only offer a free contributor copy of the magazine and all the love in our hearts.
